Yay!!! I found this one on my namesake Alicia’s blog, A Kernel of Nonsense. All of these questions pertain to the HP series, obviously.
1. What is your favourite book?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! It’s on my All-Time Favorite Books post.
2. What is your favorite film?
It’s a tie between #3 and #6. #3 has a certain magic about it- stylistically, and with the quotes and music- that I love, but #6 is both bleak and hilarious at times, not to mention sad. And the music for that one is brilliant as well.
3. What is your least favourite book?
The fifth one, definitely. I think it’s also the longest one. I’m not even sure specifically why I hate it so much, but I know I have forever. Perhaps because of Umbridge. And Sirius’s death.
Also, apparently when I read the fourth book Cedric’s death gave me nightmares. That’s both terrifying, sad, and astounding. I think it gave Harry nightmares too. How creepy is that? Plus I read it at a really young age so that was probably it. I think I read the first one at age 4. That’s what my parents tell me.
4. What is your least favorite film?
The fifth one as well. Probably for the same reasons as above.
5. Parts of the books/films that made you cry.
Oh gosh. Like, all of the films, and most of the books. Specifically…Sirius’s death in both, Dumbledore’s death in the film, and Fred’s in the film. And a certain moment towards the end of the 7th book that I’ll go on about later.
6. If you could hook up with any character, who would it be?
I’ve always had a huge crush on Malfoy. He was my original ‘bad boy crush’. It didn’t seem to sway me that he was on the verge of being evil for most of the series and a huge asshole to pretty much everyone.
Also, in the movie (forget which one), I thought Cormac McLaggen looked attractive.
7. Who is your favourite character?
I feel like this is a complicated question for me even though I’ve never really thought about it. My stock answer is Hermione, but I have a special spot in my heart for Luna. I feel like she and I would get along really well.
8. Who is your least favourite character?
Umbridge, even though Lockhart was a perfect example of a blithering idiot. I also feel like there’s a special place in hell reserved for Aunt Marge.
9. What is your least favourite line?
Oh man, I only remember my favorite lines. So I’ll do some of those as best I can remember.
“I don’t care. Anywhere’s better than here.”
-Harry, film 3
“Of course it’s happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”
-Dumbledore, book 7
“To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.”
-Dumbledore, book 1
“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”
-Dumbledore, book 1
“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
-Dumbledore, book/film 3
I left out a bunch of funny ones, including two of my favorites from the 6th film (because they’re not as funny out of context), but I’ll include them when I review the books. (Yes, I still haven’t done that! Gasp!)
10. What would your patronus be?
A tiger or a cat.
11. If you could have the Resurrection Stone, Invisibility Cloak or Elder Wand, which would it be?
The cloak. I don’t like the look of the other two. They seem pretty shifty to me.
12. Which house would you be in?
I think I’ve taken multiple tests and it’s always either Gryffindor or Slytherin. But secretly I think I would make it as a Ravenclaw too. What do I think I’d end up in? Gryffindor. What would I choose? Slytherin. I’d be the only truly good person in that house even if I’d fit right in.
“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
-Dumbledore, book 2
13. If you could meet any member of the cast, who would it be?
Alan Rickman. Gosh, he seems like such a cool dude.
14. If you were on the Quidditch team, which position would you play?
Mmm, probably Keeper. I’m not really that into sports but when I play soccer I’m usually goalie. So I reckon I could do that at least. Plus it’s not an offensive position and the Keeper doesn’t really have to do much until the Quaffle comes near them, but then they’re pretty darn important.
15. Were you happy with the ending?
Yes. Man, it seems like there was a lot of death all in the last minute, but in the end, I guess it was worth it. Were the sacrifices worth it for the greater good? I suppose so.
15.5 (I’m adding this one) What is your favorite part of the series?
The most meaningful part to me was that part towards the end of the 7th book where Harry realizes that the last Horcrux is inside him, and he needs to sacrifice himself to end everything. The thoughts that go through his mind are so powerful. It’s just such a hard thing to comprehend and contemplate. It just makes you feel so alone. There’s a reason he doesn’t say goodbye to anyone. How can you possibly justify that to yourself, much less anyone else? “Hey guys, I have to go die so the entire world will be saved…it’s my duty as the Chosen One.” Just imagine having to say that, and imagine having to be the one who hears that. Of course they’ll want to stop him, but what can they do? It’s the only way! Is it worth being the Chosen One if your only purpose is to die? It’s his sacrifice for the greater good. The ultimate sacrifice. That part, at the end, is the loneliest part in the entire series. The loneliest part of any book I’ve ever read. It’s haunting.
16. How much does Harry Potter mean to you?
It means a lot. It will always be my favorite book series next to AiW. It’s just such an emotional journey and investment that it will always be a part of you if you let it. HP has affected so many lives.
