Goodreads Tag

Posted January 24, 2016 in Tag / 0 Comments

Hi everyone! I found this tag on Lois’s blog. I also love Goodreads to death (what book lover doesn’t?) so here we go! It’s been ages since I’ve done a tag, hasn’t it?

What is the last book you marked as “read”?

The Righteous Rules for Being Awesome by Jake Black. It’s an Adventure Time book (one of my favorite shows) that I read sometime last year.

What are you “currently reading”?

Hmm. Well, on Goodreads it says I’m reading The Complete Grimm Chronicles by Ken Brosky, but truthfully, I started that book early last year and had to put it down because it was so long. I intend to pick it up again. Someday. What I really am reading is Dogsong by Gary Paulsen. It’s one of the shortest books on my shelves and I want to get it read so I can decide whether to keep it or donate it.

What’s the last book you marked as “to-read”?

The Adventure Time 2015 Spoooktacular. I have a huge collection of Adventure Time comics, only a few of which I have actually read. I marked this one as “to-read” when I was taking inventory of the books I have at school.

What book do you plan on reading next?

This changes pretty frequently.  I will probably read my next blog tour book and then try to get back to The Complete Grimm Chronicles.

Do you use the star rating system?

Yes. I love it. I don’t use anything fancy like a letter  grading system or x out of 10 or a revised system like Jamie’s. I don’t even use half-stars.

Are you doing the 2016 reading challenge?

Of course! It’s my one real challenge. I’m trying to narrow it down so that I only do that one, but I’ll probably keep doing COYER for a while as well.  Anyway, usually my goal has been 100 books, but I’m upping it this year to 120. Baby steps. Ideally I’ll reach 200 one year. It’s quite possible.

Do you have a wish list?

Yes. Not on Goodreads, though. The wish list I give to other people is full of books that I need to complete the series I own. My private one is of books that I’ve read that I want different/better editions of.

What book are you planning on buying next?

Probably new, beautiful editions of books I’ve read! But I have had my eye on Six of Crows lately. However, I’m trying not to add to my already-huge personal library. 539 books not including the ones I want to donate. But including comic books.

What is your favorite quote?

I have a lot. One I discovered recently is this:

The less I want the more I seem to have.

I found this applied especially to books. The rest of my favorites (most of them) are here.

Who are your favorite authors?

J.K. Rowling, Kristin Cashore, Lewis Carroll, Stephanie Perkins, Libba Bray, Tolkien, etc.

Are you part of any Goodreads groups?

Three, actually.

  • The Goodreads Librarian group. Because I’m a Goodreads librarian! Booyah.
  • Readers of the Round Table. They read books together and have discussions and stuff. I just recently joined. This is part of the reason that I’ve had my eye on Six of Crows. That’s what they’re currently reading and it’s an excuse to buy it.
  • A Sky Full of Books. Random bookish stuff. I’m not active anymore.

What could Goodreads do better?

Well, firstly, I wish they’d stop with the “owned” section. It’s a really sh*tty way to organize your owned books because it doesn’t number them or anything and the whole system is different from th erest of your shelves. Just make a new shelf. But the problem I have with THAT is that you HAVE to mark a book as “read,” “to-read,” or “currently reading” to add it to a shelf. I own some books that I don’t really plan to read neecessarily. What then? I just unnecessarily added like 100 books to my TBR. Not what I need right now. For the rest, I agree with Lois. Those are the main issues: owned books and re-reads. They should jut include a feature where you can have the various start and end dates for books, but MULTIPLE dates. That way they can count for both your 2015 and 2016 challenge if you re-read them. And for those people that use half-stars, they should have those too. But what about the people on the ten-point system? Or the people who rate with words? Yeesh. Well, half-stars should be all that are needed for now.

what fun.

As usual, I tag anyone who wants to do this! Leave your answers or links to your blog posts in the comments.
