The Girl’s Guide to the Apocalypse by Daphne Lamb

The Girl’s Guide to the Apocalypse by Daphne Lamb

Main points This book was a disappointment for me. It was just really frustrating. I wanted to like it, but from the beginning it was clear that this book was not for me. I understand that after the Apocalypse, things are bound to be a little crazy, but this was a whole new kind of crazy. The way people talked didn’t make sense. Conversations didn’t flow properly and any and all logic flew out the window. It was very difficult to read. The characters were all extremely stupid and most were very mean, horrible people. […]

Becoming Blue by Angie M. Brashears

Main points I liked this book! But there are a couple things that must be said. First of all, there is a LOT the synopsis doesn’t tell you. I went into it because I hadn’t read a book about larger-than-average women before and I needed diversity. I got a whole lot MORE than that. Second, there are a lot of, shall we say, interesting things that occur in this book. It’s definitely bordering on erotica, let’s get that out of the way right now. It’s kinky. Strange stuff goes down. There’s a bit of unexpected […]

All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot

Main points Oh I so love this book. It’s got to be my favorite nonfiction. It’s so beautifully written it reads like fiction, and it’s really funny and heartwarming. It’s written by a vet so it’s got loads of technical terms and such but you can pretty much always tell what’s going on. I used to want to be a vet so I find it fascinating. There’s just the right amount of vet work interspersed among the other aspects of his life. And everyone else is quite a character. Siegfried is hilarious. He’s almost unbelievable. […]

Main points I really enjoyed this. I knew I would when I read the premise, and I was right. There really isn’t much to complain about. The characters were great, although the only one we really got to see inside was Charley. He was a fantastic main character. It was really fascinating to see him become what he was afraid of and to start to wonder what his motives really were and if he was doing the right thing. In fact, it got to the point where I wasn’t sure what the right thing was. […]

The Running Game by L.E. Fitzpatrick

Main points Wow! This book was really intense! It was definitely absorbing. Pretty grim, too. Not a happy book. But the plot was pretty constantly moving. What was interesting was that it was third person omniscient. It was a few times difficult to tell whose POV it was, who was thinking which things, but it was surprisingly easy to follow for the most part. That’s difficult to do. Usually I am not a fan of 3rd person omniscient. (It was also alternating POVs between a few characters.) What I liked was the unpredictability. Certain characters […]
