Main points  I enjoyed this book. It was a good retelling. There were some clear parallels to Beauty and the Beast, but it was still very different. At times I had to think about which parts were like the original. It still felt like its own story, though. It was really cool to read. I liked the dual POV, as usual. I always prefer that. I did find that I liked Kaide’s POV better though. I’m not sure why. Blossom’s POV unsettled me a little bit, I think. Maybe I just couldn’t relate to her […]

Main points  Okay, I guess this was about as good an ending as I could have expected. It was better than the previous one, even if not quite as good as the first two. Interestingly, it was the only one written in first person, which does add to the idea that this is the main book and the others are really just prequels. Hmm. I liked Daystar, though his politeness verged on boring. He was just as proper about etiquette as the princesses and knights were, even if they were sticklers to the point of […]

Main points Eh. I’m somewhat disappointed with this one. It felt like a whole lot of nothing. It was very meh. It didn’t feel as fun and magical as the first two—Oh, there was definitely tons of magic involved, but there was so much technical discussion that it kind of ruined it. The plot was sort of simple, until the very end when it got confusing. Compared to the first two, this book was just boring. The first two could very well have been taken as a duology, and a continuation could have been cool […]

Main points Another lovely installment! This one was almost as good as the first one. It was really quite close. I finally got the ship I wanted. I was a bit miffed at first because it was told from the POV of the King of the Enchanted Forest, but I liked him almost immediately. I miss Cimorene, but she was still there, and I could guess her thoughts well enough. We meet a few more fun characters in this one. Every single one is likable and unique. It’s very easy to make friends. And it […]

Main points OMG I love this book. I love this series. It’s among my top middle-grade books and it’s been so long since I’ve read it but man am I glad I did. It’s perfect. This book is me. I am the personification of this book. It’s my exact writing style. The characters are me. The plot is me. Ok, I’ll be specific. The way this book starts out is almost exactly like a short story I wrote when I was in fourth grade. The writing style is the same—very matter-of-fact, little explanation. “This is […]

Main points This book was so super good! It had a fantastic plot and great characters. A really nice mix. The romance—what little of it there was (so far)—was also done well. I liked Trinity a lot. It’s not often that I read about girls who are very hot-headed and have quick tempers. And disobey rules. It’s refreshing. It’s also pretty neat to watch someone turn into a cat—basically. I’ve always considered myself part-cat, so it’s fun to see it for real. Man, I do love cats though. And it was pretty clear that some […]
