Blogosphere Travels #10: Blogger Birthday/Blogoversary Calendar

Blogosphere Travels #10: Blogger Birthday/Blogoversary Calendar
Posted on December 27, 2015 in Blogosphere Travels / 0 Comments

Hi everyone! I just wanted to mention this super cool and fun thing that Nicole over at Feed Your Fiction Addiction is doing. She’s created a calendar so we can keep track of our blogger friends’ birthdays and blogoversaries. This way we can celebrate x1000! I’m always in the mood to celebrate. Check it often and if you see someone having a birthday or anniversary, just swing by their blog and leave them a nice note! It’s a wonderful idea and a great way to keep everything all in one place. Just make sure you sign […]

Blogosphere Travels #9: LitRate, potentially the new Goodreads
Posted on July 28, 2014 in Blogosphere Travels / 15 Comments

Hello everyone! Today I’m really excited because I found out about Ashley’s (NoseGraze) new campaign to start a bookish website similar to Goodreads. You all know how I can’t stop promoting Ashley’s work (she’s a true Coding Goddess) such as the UBB plugin and all her themes and design work, NOT TO MENTION her fantastic book blogging tips. As another blogger said, if you’re a book blogger, you’ve heard of Ashley. So this new website is going to be called LitRate. Ashley talks about it in this guest post. I’m thinking it’s going to […]

Today I’ve got a list of some of the WordPress plugins I find useful. Some I found from Ashley’s (Nose Graze) list. Check it out. Note: These aren’t in any sort of order. #1: Jetpack This one is amazing. It keeps track  of your blog stats and comments and allows people to follow you by email and a lot of other useful things. #2: Akismet Very useful for filtering spam comments. #3: Commentluv This one is fun. It allows commenters to link to their latest post. #4: Editorial Calendar This one is AWESOME. It allows […]

Blogosphere Travels #7: Moving to WordPress (Lessons Learned)

Blogosphere Travels #7: Moving to WordPress (Lessons Learned)
Posted on June 20, 2014 in Blogosphere Travels / 1 Comment

Today I’m going to talk about how I moved from Blogger to self-hosted WordPress, because it was a huge decision to make and it was a really good one. I was inspired to do it when I heard about the Ultimate Book Blogger plugin created by Ashley of Nose Graze. It looked so amazing. I was disappointed to find that it was only for self-hosted WordPress- it wouldn’t work with Blogger. But still, it was months before I decided to move over to WordPress myself. I knew it would cost a lot of money, first […]

For today, I’m going back to the basics and posting some useful HTML I’ve found over the months and the HTML that I use the most when making posts, comments, or widgets on my blog. These are all courtesy of Small Review, who has a lot of fantastic useful tips on blogging on this page. I picked the top 4 I use the most and here they are. These will work on both Blogger and WordPress. TIP #1: Colored boxes This code will create a colored box that you can edit and play around with. […]

Blogosphere Travels #5: Dropdown Menus in Blogger

Blogosphere Travels #5: Dropdown Menus in Blogger
Posted on December 26, 2013 in Blogosphere Travels / 4 Comments

I used to use Blogger and one thing it didn’t already have was a dropdown navigation menu at the top. I had to do some hunting around but I finally found a way to do it. Hope this helps you guys! What I’m going to do is basically copy all the HTML code you’ll need to use- there’s little other instruction on the original post, but I’ll put the link here anyway. http://xomisse.com/blog/add-drop-menu-can-styled-template-designer/ STEP ONE So first you’ll need to go to the Layout tab and put in a new HTML/Javascript Gadget and paste in […]

Today I am going to be sharing a lot of helpful organizational tools from Octavia at Read. Sleep.  Repeat. I’m also promoting her blog, so check it out if you want! I love Octavia, she’s amazing. Some of her ideas helped me TONS. I’m going to basically be summing up all of her organizational posts so far, but if you want to check out the originals, I will be providing links to those as well. APPS Octavia recommends using the apps Evernote and Wunderlist. I downloaded Wunderlist yesterday, and I LOVE it! It’s basically the ultimate […]

Blogosphere Travels #3: Page Jumps

Blogosphere Travels #3: Page Jumps
Posted on December 12, 2013 in Blogosphere Travels / 0 Comments

Hello readers! I have noticed something a lot of bloggers, most in fact, have on their Review Index pages (or review archives, or whatever). I will call them Page Jumps- like where you can click on something and it takes you to another part of the same page. For example, the ‘click to return to the top of the page’ links you find at the bottom of pages. This is a tutorial for Blogger, not WordPress. But there wasn’t a coherent way of explaining how to do it on Blogger, so after playing around a bit […]

Blogosphere Travels #2: Dropdown Labels

Blogosphere Travels #2: Dropdown Labels
Posted on December 11, 2013 in Blogosphere Travels / 0 Comments

Once again, I have some more tips and tricks I have noticed bloggers using around the blogosphere! This is a tutorial on creating dropdown labels in Blogger. Most bloggers, I’m sure, are aware of how to create drop-down menus (for labels and things), but for those of you who don’t know (old and new bloggers alike), this post is for you. First, you must download the label gadget. Then go to the Template section of your blog and click Edit HTML. You can use the ‘Jump to widget’ button to find where your labels widget code […]

Blogosphere Travels #1: Series/Team banners

Blogosphere Travels #1: Series/Team banners
Posted on November 20, 2013 in Blogosphere Travels / 2 Comments

Hey everyone, I was just browsing blogs earlier today and I found a really neat thing that some blogs have where, in the sidebar, they have little Favorite Series Banners, like this: or Team Stickers, like this: and I just thought they were SO CUTE! So of course I went and added a ton to my blog. They’re on my Favorite Series/Teams page. I originally found these on Sarah’s (I’m Loving Books) blog, but her blog isn’t around anymore. So there are a few options: Scout around other people’s blogs to find series banners that […]
